The Mulberry Tree

June 1994 |
When I first saw this tree it was totally bare.
It had been radically trimmed to the point that its twisted limbs looked like they would
never bear leaves again. But this tree survived with flair and came back at last some
years later with such resplendant lush foliage and fruit that all the animals flock to it.
The birds eat its fruit as do the squirrels. The cats climb into it to get a better view.
The tree becomes its own environment in the world. Time passes and the seasons
change the way they do and summer brings a foliage that blesses others in its shaded
secret garden ways. This tree exists. This tree is a symbol of survival and tranformation
for me. |
According to Webster's New World Dictionary,
mulberry is 1. a tree with purplish-red,edible, berrylike fruit 2.the fruit 3. purlish-red

This is the tree today.
Not a great picture to show the full foliage.
But it is as lush as the garden around it.
